Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage works within the layers of fascia, muscles and tendons to create the conditions for the bodies return to normal functioning and health.  This process occurs through the increase of blood and lymph flow, the removal of blockages and damaged cells and the breakdown of scar tissue and adhesions left after injury.  This applies to injuries from strains, sprains, broken bones and bruising or lifestyle conditions causing occupational overuse syndrome and poor postural patterns leading to neck, shoulder and back pain.

NMT / TPR

Neuromuscular Therapy is based on the neurological laws that explain how the central nervous system remains in balance with the musculoskelal system.  In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly.  Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction.

Due to this, hyper irritable spots in skeletal muscle associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber result.  The trigger point model states that unexplained pain frequently radiates from these points of local tenderness to broader areas sometimes distant from the trigger point itself.  Treatment involves alternating levels of concentrated static pressure on areas of muscle spasm and specific myofascial trigger points using fingers, knuckles or elbow to relieve pain.

Myofascial Release is a form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to relieve pain and tension that is due to injury or stress.  It includes very effective and gentle techniques involving static holds, strokes and long slow stretching which releases and unwinds the fascia (connective tissue) surrounding each muscle and interconnecting all other internal parts of the body.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage focuses on specific muscles relevant to the event. For athletes who train continuously the goal is to enhance performance and endurance while minimizing the chance of injury and reducing the time needed to recover from an event. Sports Massage may utilize a variety of techniques such as classical Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, and Hydrotherapy. Prior to an athletic event Sports Massage may be combined with stretching in order to help athletes loosen and warm up their muscles.  Following an athletic event, Sports Massage may be used to relieve pain, prevent stiffness, reduce DOM’S and return the muscles back to their natural state. Sports Massage may also be used for injury rehabilitation.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage has many positive effects on the body and helps in relieving stress or physical and mental exhaustion and can increase or decrease pulse rate.  It reduces or eliminates pain and may improve muscle tone. Used as a powerful aid in the recovery from illness it improves circulation and lymphatic drainage and assists with weight loss and detoxification.  By encouraging relaxed and efficient breathing patterns, a subtle but profound effect can result on the entire body systems.
Relaxation Massage can release emotional and mental exhaustion, restore depleted energy and generate a sense of well-being that assists with the improved functioning within the pressures of daily demands.  A variety of techniques and levels of pressure focus on rejuvenation of soft tissue structures and can often send the client into a deep state of peaceful bliss.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is commonly used to treat Primary and Secondary Lymph Oedema (swelling). It is a gentle, non invasive technique which has a powerful effect on the internal systems of the body.  Directly engaging with the lymphatic system it stimulates the flow of lymph through the lymph nodes which activates a cleansing process resulting in a detox and boosting the immune systems ability to fight off illness. By keeping the enviornment around our cells healthy many benefits can be experienced.  These include relief from the symptoms of lymph oedema, chronic fatigue syndromes such a fibromyalgia and inflammations such as sinusitis, bronchitis and hayfever. It enhances the recovery from sports events and surgery as well as been deeply relaxing which can aid with the debilitating effects of insomnia, depression and stress overload.
